John,

First I assume your comment was intended for the post <a href="http://www.seektheholy.com/2008/05/21/john-piper-on-negative-calvinists/" rel="nofollow">John Piper on Negative Calvinists</a>.

The hostility that exists against Calvinists and Calvinism is not good. There is spiritual pride and arrogance on both sides. Perhaps it is most evident in Calvinists because Calvinists are in the minority today and have the most occasion to express their hostility toward non-Calvinist theology. In the SBC Calvinism is growing, and the level of unhelpful, hostile, rude rhetoric against Calvinism is growing as well. As you indicate in your comment, it goes both ways.

We do have to be careful. Reformed theology should do nothing but humble us; unfortunately, it often leads to pride.

Before I was converted I believed in the doctrines of grace, though I didn't really understand them. I read the Bible for the purpose of finding arguments against arminianism. That spirit is about as far from Christian as can be.

On the other hand, we are avoided by many in our church (which is not reformed) because of our belief.

Thanks for visiting and commenting on my blog. I invite you to comment on my previous post for the chance to win a book.
