Nuala,

That would be something to take up with Logos, but the matter of books representing a diversity of positions has been discussed at length in the <a href="http://community.logos.com/" rel="nofollow">Logos forums</a>.

I purchased the basic logos 4 package which is very good, but was disappointed in that the commentaries have all the same traditional view. Why is there not a variety with traditional scholarship & recent scholarship represented.Don't tell me to buy the scholarship package to get that! Or is logos one eyed & not prepared to represent different opinions.

Joel,

Search the <a href="http://wiki.logos.com/" rel="nofollow">Logos Wiki</a> for more answers. Here's a few things I dug up:

http://wiki.logos.com/Basic_Search
http://wiki.logos.com/Search_HELP
http://wiki.logos.com/Search_Fields_List

Hope this helps!

Is there a reference list of all the search phrases -- such as type:, subject:, etc.? I can never seem to remember them, and I know that I don't know all of them. It seems like there are quite a few. That would be helpful to keep on my desk, at least until I memorize them.

Al,

It does take some getting used to. My first (and second and third) reaction was surprise at the direction Logos had gone. But the more I've used it the more I like it. I love being able to snap the windows around, etc.

Collections also took getting used to and there are some things about collections that could be smoother, but again, the strengths of the new collection method won me over in the end.

A lot of people have had comments about the reverse interlinears and I think Logos plans to make some changes in coming versions. Printing is another area they will be improving as things move forward.

Greetings,
I've been using L4 now for a few days. Maybe it's because I've not gotten used to it but I really don't feel at home with it. The home page is awesome. I'm having a hard time adding books to an existing collection, among other things. I don't like the reverse interlinear. I'd prefer having the Greek right under the English text instead at bottom. I cannot print my research, at least I have not found out how to do it. In addition, I wish Logos would produce some tool to manage in print form all the resources I have instead of me trying to figure it out on my own. I don't think the window system is the most practical. I'm not complaining, just making my observations known, after all, I've paid a premium buck for this product.
The engine and the tool itself is awesome, it's the interface that seems to be lacking, in my humble opinion, pragmatic approach to usability. Don't mean to offend anyone.
Finally, I love the Lord and do thank Him for the blessings of L4!!! ;)
Eis Cristos

Matt,

I'm not sure what would cause the indexer to crash but it probably is not your virtual machine settings. Your best bet would be to contact Logos support. They may want you to enable logging and send them your log files so they can identify the problem.

As for my settings, 2 gig ram, 1 core CPU, 3d accel off, bridged network, etc etc.

Bob,

http://www.logos.com/support/techfaq#sysreqs

That has the system specs. I don't think they had it up right away but it's been up at least since sometime the day Logos 4 was released.

Notice the specs: 1 gig ram, XP SP3 or better, 12g hard drive space, 1024x600 monitor, 128mb dx9 card... These are not high-end specs. I suspect something from your conversation with Logos is not being represented properly. Recommended specs and minimum specs is not the same thing.

As for my setup, I'm running on a Mac within a virtual machine on a laptop, giving 2 gig ram to the virtual machine and sharing all other resources with the Mac OS. I'm running with a pretty smooth experience. Users with any half-decent computer should have no trouble running Logos 4. If they don't have a half-decent computer it should not surprise that new software will have trouble running.

I am trying to run this in VMWare, but the indexer keeps crashing. Care to share your virtual machine's settings? RAM/CPU/etc. I checked the minimum system requirements at http://www.logos.com/support/techfaq; even though my VM's settings meet the requirements, indexer still crashes consistently.

I spoke to libronix last night about the upgrade (because there was nothing on the website about system requirements. . . quite an omission). I hope they are not disappointed when they don't sell this thing as fast as they hoped. . .because a lot of people in ministry can't go buy a new computer to do the upgrade, which is otherwise reasonably priced. I nearly cried when the guy on tech support said "I would recommend the latest windows 7 machine with 4 gig of ram". Maybe a larger beta program would have surfaced this particular issue. As it is now, Logos 4 may be useless for a lot of people in ministry...not because we can't afford the upgrade, but because we can't afford to buy new hardware.
Just a few thoughts,
Bob
